  1. Awesome! First, thanks to this poet for setting an example on how to follow one’s passion in the midst of monotonous life style and make it happen. With MCA background from Thiagarajar School of Management, Madurai and toiling in IT like many of us, this writer’s poems takes us to another world (or the world we are supposed to be in!). His obsession for rains leaves us longing for the next shower. I doubt whether any other book has detailed the length and breadth of rain like this one. Packed with metaphors, simple language and unique subject plots like what we come across in “following an elephant” this book is too good.

  2. Cremation poem brought me tears. Siru mechal is creating fear about old age. Thoughts about death which is wide spread in many poems are very deep and at times a kind of slap on the face. Today people just write meaningless sentences break it down into lines and call it poem. Here every word is used and formed with care. One negative thing is that if all poems are read continuously one feels a overdose of rain and death. I liked many lines one of them is about old age and says when are 60 we may think if we had known this is how it is we could have lived it differently.

  3. It is a strange coincidence with stranger details. It is rare to find poems with elephants in lead role. There are few in this book next strange thing is those poems to have wonderful wordings next strange thing is that we come to understand that elephants in those poems are not elephants and the stangest thing beyond that is that after reading it switching on the tv only to watch elephants going on rampage in mysore. your poem "vatham" is very catchy where time and life is hiding in elephant and pagan."Time is an untamed forest elephant" ah simple powerful phrase. I liked the poem which is written like a conversation between kid and elders about sea. There are few poems like "sri patham" with long winding sentences with no clue of what the poet is trying to convey.

  4. I must say that this book stands up to what writer says in his introduction. able to connect and experience every line. Starting with "Kadavul Vaalthu" which hints at what is in store for us in this book, kumaran has penned a clear cut view of life. Even in a normal poem like "Madurai" which shows poet's circastic side, there is a sudden dive into serious business.
There is a heaviness of unknown once we finish reading this book. questions on purpose of life and death is thrown in many places in unexpected ways but why poem like the one on "betrayal" doesnt fit into this book and looks below standards even then there is a beautiful line even in this misfit poem that fits any form of betrayal "I asked you rain for my grass land instead you burnt it barren with el" there are also poems like "daganam" very moving..

  5. God bless you. Am 65 year old rtd teacher came across this book and have been reading it more than once.Though subject is old, presentation is fresh. Philosophy put in very simple words. Old age brings lot of questions and fear about life after death. You have given a completely differet angle to it in your poems. Kept reading "Pilgirmage" it haunts me but your trick of ending pensive poems positively helps here too. Thank you Kumaran. Thanks for lines like "if we have to go to next city it takes few miles so it is logical to accept that to reach god it takes many births". I enjoyed each and every line in your book. There is something special and done with purpose - all wordings which describe young or middle age is affirmative while anything on post 40 years you have kept it as questions or doubts this takes the poems to a new level of being realistic and close to heart.

  6. OMG! atlast i found a book which doesnt have a single word describing women physique in the name of poems, a book which is all about relations but not even one explicit word about any relation, a book which doesnt force or preach any thought but captures you by every thought. The importance of titles is best understood with many poems here like "mukaalam" poem where without this title the poem is just about going to beach and with this title it takes you completely into another angle same goes for "therotam" "malayetram" all these simple titles tilt the poem content to surprising meanings. Knock out punches in last 2 lines which links to the title to convey the meaning of the poem seems to be kumaran's trademark and he uses this in almost all poems. I hope this well talented poet doesnt end up writing nonsense songs for tamil movies!

  7. Average. lot of double meaning to an extent that not able to find what is the real meaning.New breed of poets write things which are not understandable and think as genius. Some poems are ok but look at mazhai ligidham or kaatin thotram will any one understand these poems?
