புத்தனாக விரும்பி புறப்படும் பல பேரும்
போதாத காலம் வந்தால் தோதான காரணத்தால்
சித்த நேரம் சேற்றில் இறங்கி சிலுவை சுமந்திடுவர்.
மொத்தமாக கொடுப்பதே சுத்தமாக இருப்பதெனும்
ஒத்துவரா கொள்கையுடன் சுத்தி வரும் மனங்களுக்கு
எல்லாவித உறவிலும் ஏதேனும் ஏமாற்றம்
பிரிந்தாலும் சேர்ந்தாலும் பின்குறிப்பில் முகம் காட்டும்.
சந்தனத்தை அரைத்து சாக்கடையில் கரைத்து
மாற்றம் என்று நுகர்வதும் நாற்றம் என்று நகர்வதும்
நமக்கு ஒன்றும் புதிதில்லை
நாலில்* இரண்டு** பழுதில்லை!
* அறம், பொருள், இன்பம், வீடு

Having close association with a writer gives an extra edge in getting additional angle into his works. First book from Kumaran, rightly dedicated to his mother with its content designed in simple language, takes us in a swing between materialistic speed breakers and spiritual inclinations. "Hail the rains" has come out amidst unparalleled personal disasters this budding writer has undergone.
ReplyDeletecatchy phrases , subtle messages and powerful titles combine to provide a platform to experiment thoughts. “Dhaganam” stands close to my heart, with tears trickling most of times this poem is read, set on inability of a person who watches his mothers’ slow death. “Yaathirai” a very practical look at death starts with a simple question of why does most of the early morning phone calls bring death? Reader is given 2 options - to read what is visible still get one complete meaning, keep digging underneath to find more and more content. "Mukkalam" is a typical example which is one of shortest poems in this book while the title opens up a "sea" of views on life.
If there is a term to express extreme obsession, that may fit for poems on rain. This takes its peak in the poem where poet meets a doctor for curing “rain disease”. “Siru meichal” explains a typical middle class human life from birth to death with some classy touches like middle age cross roads. While a bit of communist color is sprayed in few poems, with guts it also has a mention of “courtesy” of MNCs which are directly targeted in those poems.
One may need multiple rounds of this book to get the underlying essence.
